Fat Ox - Big Van: You can upgrade your roof. But the insurance company, an insurance policy, only owes for the kind, like, kind and quality that's on your roof now.
Fat Ox - Mizani: This next question comes from LinkedIn. They'd like to know. Can I upgrade my roof on an insurance claim? This is a question I get a lot about upgrades in general. Like, can I do this or that?
Fat Ox - Big Van: Yeah, yeah. And I get that question a lot. And we do in the field as well, our public adjusters that are out in the field. But yeah, that's a good question. I would say you can upgrade your roof, but the insurance company and the insurance policy only owes for the kind of like, kind, and quality that's on your roof now. So if you have a three tab shingle and it's, you know, it's old or whatever, if you have a shingle that you want to upgrade to, like an architectural lifetime shingle or some other kind of shingle, you can absolutely upgrade, but you're going to have to pay the difference in cost. If the carrier said that they'll pay $3000 for your shingles and it comes to find out that it's going to cost $5000 to do the upgrade, you will have to pay that other $2000. They will not pay for that or, you know, or maybe you can work out some kind of a deal with your contractor or something. But the policy does not owe you for upgrading your shingles. Now sometimes it does owe for an upgrade. And I'll give you an example why let's say you have a shingle. That was a great example is there's this there's a certain horizon shingle that's been discontinued now it's a three tab shingle, but it's got some extra laminae an applique on it that that applique makes it a 30 year warranty on a three tab shingle. Well, you can't buy that shingle anymore. It's been discontinued, but they owe you for like, kind, and quality. So the quality of the shingle has to be the same, meaning a 30 year warranty shingle. So therefore the only way you can get a 30 year warranty shingle now is by buying an architectural shingle, which is an upgrade from a three type shingle. So the policy, in fact, would owe you to upgrade to that 30 year warranty. And so you might get an architectural shingle in exchange for a three type shingle, and that would be covered by the policy. So if that helps, if that again, once you get into the those kind of specific questions, give us a call, Fat Ox 833-BIGFATOX and holler at us and maybe we can help you. Maybe we'll just give you some advice over the phone. You might be from some area that's not in our coverage area, but we're still perfectly willing to give you some advice and help you out if we can.
